Exposure Visit & Hands-on Training on Climate Smart Agriculture Technologies and Permaculture Practices from January 15-28, 2026, A team of 15 officials from the Four Target Dzongkhags, Agriculture Research and Development Centres (ARDCs)-Bajo and Samtenling, National Poultry Development Centre (NPIDC), National Dairy Development Centre (NDDC), National Piggery Development Centre (NPIDC) and Project Management Unit (PMU) participated in an intensive 14-day program at the HASERA Agriculture Research and Training Centre in Patlekhet, Kathmandu, Nepal.<\/p>

Key Learning & Activities:<\/strong><\/p>

  • Permaculture Principles: Participants delved into the philosophy and principles of permaculture, focusing on Earth care, People care, and Fair share. Topics included zonation, integration of elements, and efficient resource use.<\/li>
  • Agriculture techniques such as double-dug bed preparation, compost making, super compost production, and soil quality testing.<\/li>
  • Natural Pest Management: The training emphasized ecological pest management strategies, including insect identification, natural repellents, pheromone traps, and bio-pesticide preparation.<\/li>
  • Integrated Farm Management: Sessions explored food forest principles, organic fungicides (Bordeaux Mixture), and the collection and multiplication of Indigenous Microorganisms (IMO) for soil health.<\/li>
  • Exposure Visits: Participants visited HASERA Permaculture farm, Eco-Himal Nepal, Okharbot Organic Farm, and Himgiri Organic Hub, gaining insights into real-world applications of permaculture and sustainable market linkages.<\/li>
  • Social Permaculture: Discussions highlighted community connection, inclusion, wellbeing, and practical planning through zone design, extending permaculture beyond farming to holistic living.<\/li>
  • Economic Analysis: The HASERA model demonstrated the economic viability and sustainability of permaculture, emphasizing reduced consumption, efficient resource use, and income diversification.<\/li><\/ul>

    Impact & Future:<\/strong><\/p>

    The training aimed to equip participants with knowledge to apply permaculture design in the Bhutanese context, promoting regenerative and sustainable agriculture. The practices learned, such as zoning, mixed cropping, composting, and natural pest management, are well-suited for Bhutan’s landscape, promising reduced dependency on chemical inputs and improved soil health.<\/p>
